Gulf Economy interviewed Mr. Wissam Badawi, the expert in the restaurants sector, and tackled some current issues that are significantly important in today's Gulf business market.

* In your opinion, Mr. Wissam, what are the current challenges facing emerging businesses and startups in the Gulf market?
Mr.Wissam: COVID-19 took over the scene on many different aspects of life, general and economic, with its devastating impacts on the global and national economy, however, it can not be seen as the only player in the game. Factors like market diversity, cultural variety and the great number of businesses and startups being launched every day are considered as major challenges that any entrepreneur must consider when thinking of establishing his/her own successful business. These factors made it crucial for any business or startup to boost its online and real presence as well, harnessing the right talent and developing human capital within an organization hand in hand with the efficient financial management and organizational development.

* If you might give advice for those entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in the Gulf Market, what would that be?
Mr. Wissam: Value creation is key here. Your customers are as loyal to your brand as the value they comprehend. Searching for the target clients is where one should start next. By right clients I mean the ones perfect for your business and those who will benefit the most from what you’re offering. Whith that achieved, a marketing strategy streamlining is next,  being very specific about who you want to work with and why. That’s the only way you can scale your business sustainably in a world of rapid changes and tough challenges.

* In what prospect you can help the Saudi market?
Mr. Wissam: It is the time now to unleash our local potentials and to start by establishing factories in Saudi Arabia. Such a step would highly reduce the production costs, minimize the shipping fees, and avoid delivery delaying, which will be positively reflected on the entire Saudi Market.

* How would young entrepreneurs and businessmen benefit from that?
Mr. Wissam: Instead of spending high costs on franchises of international brands, they can seize the chance to build local brands that would compete the greatest global brands in the Saudi and Gulf Market, meeting the exact development goal of Vision 2030.
